Ferrari Dino 246GT L-Series
Ferrari Dino 246GT very rare L-Series - all matching - perfect restored
One of the most desirable Ferrari Dino GT is the L-Series model.
It succeeded the 206GT with the important up-grade of a more powerful 2.4 liter V6 engine delivering 195 bhp that aimed to attack the successful Porsche 911S. The fact that also Lancia decided to use this engine in their Stratos underlines the unique performance qualities of this engine.
Ferrari produced in total only 353 vehicles of the L-Series.
As the preceding 206 model the L-Series had been equipped with attractive central locking wheels that were discontinued on the following models. Whereas the 206GT body was made completely out of aluminum and had a chassis that was about 8 cm shorter, the L series had hood, door panels, engine and trunk lid made out of the more expensive lightweight material, the rest of the body was made out of steel. All subsequent series only came with the front lid in aluminum.
These details are the main reason why L-Series Coupes are according to Dino Expert Matthias Bartz traded about 15-20% higher than comparable later M- and E-Series.
Chassis No. 00868 was produced in May, 1970 and had been delivered to the Ferrari dealer M.G. Crepaldi Automobili, Milano.
The original factory color was an attractive Blu Scuro Dino (20-A-357) of which only 139 Dino’s left the factory.
The interior was in beige vinyl (code 430).
The car had been repainted in red during a restoration of a previous owner in 2009. It has still the original interior which has beautiful patina that shows almost no signs of wear.
The car is equipped with a period correct Voxson Nürburgring radio that has a blue tooth adapter.
Chassis No. 00868 comes with a Matthias Bartz Compendium.
After carefully checking all numbers of engine, gearbox and body, it can be confirmed that 00868 is a completely matching numbers car!
It has always stayed in Europe and the Compendium shows 4 owners. We bought the car in spring 2023 from a Ferrari Dealer in Germany.
Prior to our purchase a comprehensive overhaul of the engine had been done by the Seller. During this work, all major engine components like conrods, pistons, valves, bearings etc. were replaced.
Since then, we have driven the car for about 4.000 km. Driving this Dino is simply amazing and certainly the most enjoyable experience from all the classic cars we have driven so far (…and there were quite a few).
What is next?
Chassis 00868 will undergo a complete concourse restoration by Scuderia Azzurra with the aim to bring it back to its former glory without any compromises.
Since the engine has been already done, focus will be on the overhaul of all other technical components.
The body will be stripped down to bare metal in order to repaint the car in its original color Blu Scuro Dino. The original interior will be reconditioned.
The dashboard that had been wrongly covered by a previous owner in black leather will be re-trimmed in the original mouse fur material.
Once the restoration is finished, this unique and very original L-Series Dino will be without doubt one of the best available and in this color scheme one of the most desirable Ferrari Dino.
It will be sold with a warranty of 12 months from purchase date.
