Lancia Flaminia Zagato Super Sport – Chassis No. 826.232-002141
On the Turin Fair in November 1964 Lancia launched their new top model, the Zagato Super Sport 2.8L 3C.
The model was succeeding the Flaminia Zagato Sport and received a strong input by the new Zagato designer Ecole Spada. Spada changed the roof section to a sloping roof the ended, inspired by the Giulia TZ ‘coda tronca’, in a vertical tail-end. At the front he created a new look by asymmetric headlamp bezels surrounding the original headlamps, set back a few centimeters in more curved front wings. The bonnet and overall height were also reduced. The resulting model expressed a more sleek and elegant silhouette with improved aerodynamics.
The Super Sport was equipped with a larger 2.8L engine and new Weber40 DCN carburetors which helped to increase performance to 152 bhp at 5900 rpm, added 10% more torque and managed to achieve a top speed of 210 km/h .
In total only 205 Super Sport were produced. The very first customer of a Super Sport presented on the Turin Fair was the renowned actor Marcello Mastroianni who had a strong passion for art and cars.
The Zagato Super Sport with Chassis No. 826.232-002141 has spent most of his life in Switzerland and was imported into the EU in 2016. The Swiss seller had owned the car for the previous 30 years. The remaining history is fully documented.
From 2016 to 2018 the Super Sport received a comprehensive “nut and bolt” restoration by Scuderia Azzurra. It has been sold to the current owner in concourse condition in 2017 who added it to his impressive car collection. The car has been finished in color ‘nero’ with an interior in color mint. It is equipped with special Zagato seats that could be ordered at the time as an option. The Zagato seats offer much better lateral support, especially in sharp curves, and allow more head- and legroom, so that even taller drivers can sit comfortably.
The car has a matching number engine that of course also had been overhauled during the restoration. However, chassis No. 826.232-002141 is currently equipped with a special developed engine that was built, based on an original engine block, by the well-known technology company Capricorn Group that is specialized in supplying technical solutions for Formula 1 constructors and other important players in the automotive racing industry.
An engine power of 190 bhp at 5500 rpm and 310 nm at 3500 rpm makes this Super Sport certainly the most powerful and fastest Super Sport on the market.
The future owner will of course also receive the original “matching number” engine.
Chassis no. 826.232-002141 has been well stored and maintained over the last years. It is presenting itself today in the same amazing condition as it has been right after the restoration.
This is a unique opportunity to own a true and rare Zagato icon of the 1960ies in a very attractive color scheme and an incredible powerful engine.
